Martha’s Vineyard service providers come to the aid of MV Family Planning

Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, Vineyard Power, and Island Wide Youth Collaborative of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services are generously providing Health Imperatives’ Martha’s Vineyard programs, including Family Planning and WIC, with space to see clients and provide services while the Family Planning building undergoes emergency repairs. The organizations generously donated the use of space at their sites to Family Planning staff after a water leak rendered the clinic unusable in mid-October. Repairs to the Family Planning building are expected to take between two and four weeks.

“They saved our life,” said Emily Gold, Health Imperatives’ Director of Reproductive Services said of the community partners. “By providing us with use of their clinic space, we can ensure that our patients get services during this time.” Health Imperatives – Martha’s Vineyard has an average of more than 150 appointments each month, and is a key provider of health and human services on island.

Martha’s Vineyard Hospital is hosting Health Imperatives’ Family Planning staff in the Physicians’ Office Wing, where they will provide all sexual and reproductive health services normally offered in the clinic. Family Planning clinic hours at the hospital will be as follows:

  • Week of November 6: Tue, 11/7, 1-5pm; Wed, 11/8, 9am-8pm; Thu, 11/9, 9am-6pm
  • Week of November 13: Tue, 11/14, 1-5pm; Wed, 11/15, 9am-8pm; Thu, 11/16, 9am-6pm
  • Week of November 20: Tue, 11/21, 1-5pm; Wed, 11/22, 9am-1pm
  • Week of November 27: Wed, 11/29, 9am-8pm; Thu, 11/30, 9am-6pm

If building repairs are completed prior to the end of the month of November, Family Planning patients will be contacted and advised of the change in their appointment location.

Vineyard Power is hosting Family Planning staff at their 517 State Road location, next to the Martha’s Vineyard Family Planning site, on Mondays and Tuesday mornings. Staff will be present on those days to distribute birth control and other sexual and reproductive health supplies and to speak with patients and answer questions.

Martha’s Vineyard Community Services is hosting Health Imperatives’ Cape Cod WIC staff at their 111 Edgartown Road location to provide nutrition assistance to low-income families. The WIC clinic is this Friday, November 3 from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. The next WIC clinic will be Friday, November 17. It is not yet determined whether the November 17 WIC clinic will be at Community Services or whether the Family Planning building will be repaired and open.

Health Imperatives is deeply grateful to these organizations for their assistance in making sure that residents continue to have access to the critical services provided at the clinic.

With questions, clients can reach Health Imperatives’ Martha’s Vineyard Family Planning staff at (508) 693-1208.
